Re: Whats the deal w UK and COD3???
All PS3 disks are the same.... Period.
I have all three region consoles and they all run the same disks identically. I copy game data from one console to another and can carry on where I left off on a mission on the other console. Where they are different is location. It matters not which console or disk you have when ou access the internet.. It matters only where you are in the world when you go online. The servers pick up your IP address and will route you to the correct server for your location. I've played Resistance Fall of Man in Japan, UK and US now (yeah, I know....) and they access different servers. Funnily enough when I was in the UK and used my Japanese console it went to the Japanese servers as the European servers were not up nd running of course. Now, this is only really relevant in game publisher's server that are IP dependent such as resistance Fall of Man or Motorstorm. The Call of Duty 3 servers that Activision employ are global. It doesnt matter from what IP location you are hitting them from, they all route to the one central server network allowing the UK to play with Americans. The question is why didnt everybnody do this !!?? Well, its a server management issue. Activision have previous experience with their other platforms, I imagine. The downside is that these global servers are being used a LOT more and the results are plain to see in the fragileness of the COD3 servers. Maybe Activisioin should go the IP Location route and join the others.. I mean, how much easier is it to get on Resistance or Motorstorm as compared to trying to get on COD3 !??? Now, and here is where it gets really complicated, what if you can trick your PS3 into believing it is in a different country. The problem is the ISP that you use which will just about give it away. Theoretically it must be possible via some extravagent Proxy setup but its beyond me to start thinking about it though it would help me in the global management of this site.... |
