Which is better - COD3 or RFoM ?

I wanted a first-person-shooter with my PS3, and right now there are only two to choose from: Resistence: Fall of Man, or Call of Duty 3. I read the reviews in magazines and on various sites, and it seemed hands down that RFOM was the stronger of the two, and so that's what I spent my hard-earned money on. However, after reading and contributing to this forum, it would appear that there are many COD3 fans out there. So now I want to know...was I too hasty? Did I make the right decision? Should I have bought COD3 instead.

I'm asking you - my peers, the people who play the games and (unfortunately) don't get paid to do it.

Which is better?

CD, get both !! Its just another $60.

If you are into shooting games then you wont get 2 better games than this on the PS3 for many years to come. Possible exceptions could be Metal Gear Solid 4 but thats so far away you should buy that as well.
Also, Rainbow 6 and Splinter Cell will be awesome.

Reasons to buy:

RFOM:
Great graphics on HD, superb storyline, nothing like bashing aliens, good online with up to 40 players, great guns.

COD3: Seems more realworld realistic, true storyline, fantastic online experience with FAR more intersting battlefelds but lesser amount of players.

I play COD3 more as I think its better online which to me is the most important thing. I think RFOM is better looking and perhaps more intersting though.

They represent, arguably, two of the best three games out for the PS3.
Both deserve your money!

Thanks, Evotion. That's the stuff I need to know. I wonder why IGN gave COD3 a mediocre rating - it really put me off buying it. I'll have to put COD3 on my list - my growing list. This is going to be an expensive year.

Well, I think COD3 is the mutt's nuts ! (thats good !)

:)

Its almost impossible to choose between the two.

Judging by the numbers online on both I would say COD3 is proving the most successful online.

The downside and probably what IGN were getting at is that it really doesnt move the game on. Its identical to the 360 version and not a great deal better than COD2. In fact, I have read some people think it is not as good as COD2.
I cant speak on that subject as I have never owned COD2 but I have played it and always vowed to get it one day. My kids prefer it over RFOM.

Hire, borrow, steal or buy it... but you MUST have it!

Killing loads of enemy and being promoted to Corporal and then Sergeant is SOOO rewarding!

Both are Must Buys.... No argument.
if you like these sorts of games then you should have the pair.

There isnt a lot in it and I play a lot of both online.
I love Somerset on RFOM and I love Merville and Poisson on COD3.

Totally fantastic play areas.... such good games.

Cod is a bit less hectic on line, which suits me.

In Rfom there are silly options like unlimited rounds and grenades and it turns into a fireshow.
I also think cod has the better panaramas though I also like Somerset on rfom.

Rfom is cool though, has a great story and campaign and the guns are far more interesting as the creators wont held back by mimicing real world guns.

Another plus point for the COD online is that you can drive the motorbikes, jeeps and tanks... They are really cool!

Difficult decision...

I seem to play more COD3 but overall RFOM is 'probably' the better game.
It's one of the few games developed only for the PS3. I dont think they tapped into half the PS3's power but still a great game for the masses.

Actually something I forgot...

COD3 has no local multiplayer availability.
ie you can only play campaign or go online.

You cant play against your friends or family as it only one player.
When four of us want to play we stick on resistance.
My sons have their friends around EVERY day (seriously) to play on the PS3 (am in the UK so its gold dust) and we/they always play resistance.

So thats another factor in why resistance is better than COD3 in most people's eyes.

When theyve gone to bed I will stick on COD3 though as its super cool online.

So, Dan - you're from the U.K, huh? That's where I'm from originally. I have heard they've stopped shipping North American units to Europe for various reasons, so I guess you got yours just in time. Very impressive.

Also...regarding your earlier post (mutt's nuts)..I would have understood if you'd said 'dog's bollocks.'

i thought about it, but its sooo Eighties ... :P

i got mine from Tokyo, arrived on the 19th Nov. There was NO WAY i was going to wait 5 1/2 months to get hold of one!

I think europe can still get them okay from HK and Japan but the US Customs has cracked down on it....

Mind you, I get all my games from the US and they get through okay. I guess the US customs have to clamp down it as I believe it was rules as illegal to export PS3s from the US to Europe after SONY went to court.I might be wrong but i cant think of any other reason for it.

I think its more interesting, has multiplayer offline capabilities and the sniper gun is the sexiest thing alive... :)

Youre right about COD3.... Its very difficult to get on at peak US times.

Still, Cod3 gets my vote!

I think you did the right thing...

If you have to buy just ONE game i has to be Resistance Fall of Man.
It is original and does everything COD3 does bu with more style and it has the two-four player thing.
COD3 is just part of a series and you may have already 'tasted' it on a PS2 or a friends console.

Personally, as I have both, its difficult to put one above the other.
COD3 online, RFOM offline...

I do conceed that COD3 misses a mutiplayer option...
It is annoying as I wold like sometimes to play the game against a friend in my house.. :(

Still, its got a great online multiplayer and IF the publisher brings out new maps every few months then it will surely be the best online multiplayer game to get.... :)

As I've said already Resistance is the one for me, by some margin...

COD3 is good and it is definately better that the rankings it gets at most main PS3 review sites. It got slaughtered for being much worse than the 360 version with bugs, screen errors and freezes..
Still , Its a lot of fun and still a worthy title IMHO.

Absolutely Kronik..

COD3 would rock big time if it had headset support, 2-4 offline players and Activision pulled their finger out and imprived their servers and gave us a game pack or two...

Its not much to ask ...

The servers for COD3 always work. period .

RFoM on the the other hand, never works, and I have only been able to play 3 times!
