Fold as if your life depended on it!
![]() As you may or may not know, ps3 multiplayer has a folding@home team. This folding@home team has existed for a long time. However, the team only has 22 members, most of which have only folded once or twice. PS3M currently has 11,099 members! This means that only .2% of the PS3M communty folds to their own team. Right now the team has 145030 points and 683 completed Work Units. We are currently ranked 5978 of 142202. Thats not very good. We should try to get up to at least 1,000th. I know the idea of letting heat build up in your PS3 is scary, but think about it this way. 1. You are helping to find a cure for cancer. 2. Most PC overclockers run programs like folding at home and prime95 for days to check stability 3. F@H only uses 100% of your processors if you use advanced mode (but you get 1.5X more points!) 4. The PS3 has an auto shut off if it detects high temperatures. It has sensors on the CPUs, GPU, Northbridge, Hard Drive, and much more. 5. You can set it to auto shut off after a certain period of time. The Difference between advanced, and normal mode: Normal mode is just as it sounds, it is what the majority of people use. A work unit in normal mode typicaly takes 6-8 hours and has a time limit of 2 days to return the Work Unit before you lose points. With normal mode you may quit folding at any time and it will resume next time you start it up. Advanced mode uses more resources, up to 100%. Advanced units are very high priority. They are the ones that stanford wants back ASAP. You have a much smaller time limit, and if you quit, not only do you lose more points, but you lose the rights to that work unit. You may not resume a quit advanced download. However, no one expects you to use the more advaced option for nothing. You get 1.5x more points than normal mode. An advanced work unit typicly takes 8-10 hours to complete. I run advanced mode. Once again, please join the ps3multiplayer team, it is a great help to cancer research. What do you have to lose? Worst comes to worst, your ps3 reaches its temp limit and turns itself off without any damage to your system. Join team 58988! Great thread + Rep. Cancer claims so many lives in such a terrible way. I'm ganna try do a unit every few weeks in memory of Boon, so nobody else has to suffer from that disease.
