SONY CONFIRM "THE AGENCY" - ONLINE!

Sony Online Entertainment has annouced that they are working on a "pick up and play" fast action shooter called The Agency. Players will take on the part of an elite agent in mordern times. There will be solo, co-op and competetive story missions to be completed and take part in.

Lead Designer at Sony Online Entertainment, Hal Milton, had this to say about the game "The inspiration for The Agency came from the spy and espionage genre. We want to put players in the heart of the action to experience what it's really like to live the life of an elite agent. Players will jet set around this virtual world to exotic locales, infiltrate enemy organizations to steal secrets and perpetrate sabotage, all the while building their own agency with an eye towards global domination."

You choose between spy or mercenary for two different "factions", both are involved in illicit activities such as drug smuggling, arms dealing etc. As players progress through the game they will be able to build up their own agencies, team up with other players' agencies and create "joint ageencies" and recruit operatives. (clan heaven methinks)

Operatives operate 24/7 and will either instantly message you if you are online or send messages via the PSN so you are aware of the latest developments.

Sony have not advised as to when the game will become available but as soon as thyey do SmileyBob will let you know!

A couple questions:
Just to make sure, this game is online only right?

And, is it true that the number of people online is unlimited?

Does the above question mean that the game has everyone in room?


The game does look kind of interesting, I just wish they didn't have that animation graphics. That's the only thing I would dislike about the game.

I think it might look like that because it might be at a lower frame rate than what it will be at launch. That's how they show gameplay of other games. Oh and about everyone in one room, doubt it. With all that happening it'll lag too much. It'l prolly work that you go into different servers and your clan all uses the same server. Hopefully, you'll be able to access your buddy list without being in a server though..

Hi bud, firstly that's three questions! lol

In answer to your first I don't think it will be on-line only as they have stated there will be a SOLO mode. You will require some sort of e-mail access to enable to pick up updates and info. I will find out more for you, it would be a bit odd as Sony would be limiting themselves in the sales dept and at the end of the day that's what they want, more sales = more profits!

An online game can have a Solo mode, of course, as its only a web based version of a 'normal' game.
I am surprised more publishers havent already done this.
It is easy for them to add levels at will, such as adding a 3 mission extra to a game like COD3 which they could make us pay $5 for in the Playstation Store.
Eventually ALL games will go this way, that inevitable, probably be that the PS4 isn't even a console, just a web browser or part of something else.

By the way, is this the big June 11th announcement that everyone was going on about or was that something else?
I havent been paying attention.

I thought Solo mode was the different quests and stuff that you do, solo and then Co-op you could do with other people. I thought all that stuff would still be online...

Also, Sony wouldn't be financially crumbled by an online only game. If you didn't know, Warhawk is online only.

Oh and this is the June 11th announcement. I know, it sucked.
