Blu-Ray Disk Reader Is Busted

Well, here's my story:

Whilst playing GTA IV for about 2 hours, the game froze completely. I tried to switch it off via the controller, although when I highlited and clicked on the 'Switch Off' option, a message saying ''Please Wait'' showed up. This message didnt go until after 3 minutes I decided to switch it off from the touchpad. The PS3 still didnt want to switch off, so I ended up switching it off from the power switch.

When the PS3 froze, I was a few seconds away from completing a very difficult mission, which pissed me off really badly, so then I decided to play some COD4. An hour passed, and then COD4 froze (I was like...What the HELL!!!). The same thing happened, so I did the same process as before.

Then, when I tried to re-enter the game, right after the PS3 logo shows up, the game exited and an error message showed up saying ''Start Up Sequence Failed'' (Or something like that, I forgot). I tried loading up another game, but the same thing happened. After many tries, the PS3 Game didnt even show up in the XMB.

I talked to a friend and he told me that the same thing happened to his PS3 exactly after a few hours of GTA IV gameplay. I am sending the PS3 to the shop I bought it from, and luckily I still have the Guarantee, so until now, all I need is luck

Tomorrow i'm sending it for repairs, and if the PS3 does not get fixed, I will get a new one for free. Wish me luck People, I will update this thread as soon as possible.

I know its kinda long, although cases just like these are increasing, it might happen to you, so watch out

i got the same issue.

Sent my ps3 to the repair center they got it last friday.

Hope to have it back soon but i doubt it.

Mhhmmm, I was always turn my ps3 off from the back when something dumb happens. Never had problems tho.... I had once this message saying, 'rebuilding data facility', or something.

me 2, but that thing that "re-bulits the HDD" doesnt effect ur save games or anything!

flutisat i had a problem like this one my ps3 couldnt read my discs....hope i get it back soon

I know, but if it can't 100% fully rebuild it you will loose some of your data.

Here's an update on my repair status.

OK here we go

4/24 ps3 stops reading discs right after cod4 update 1.30
4/25 call Sony they send out coffin
5/01 coffin received by me same day i take coffin back to ups. Ps3 sent out
5/02 Sony repair center receives my unit and they say the unit has been opened and assigned.
5/06 i check the repair status and it says my unit has been shipped back to me on 5/05


So we will see what i get back a refurbed one most likely, but they have been giving out brand new units because they are short on supplies i guess. Idk if i want a brand new unit and it craps out on me again. I want one that's not going to hit the crapper 5 months from now.

Ill let you's know when i get it back.
