Help Needed Please!!
Ok, so I got my shiny new UK PS3 this morning and it's all I thought it would be...ie brilliant, except one thing. I can't connect to the internet on it! I have a wireless router with 2 computers already linked up to it (one being a PC with an access point and one being a wi fi enabled laptop). When setting up the PS3, I don't really know where to start to be honest, I can get to what I think is the end of the set up, where it says I have to test the connection. When I do this though it says that the test has failed because it was unable to retrieve an IP address. Please help as I would like to get online asap. Thanks in advance

Re: Help Needed Please!!
Umm, I cant think how to help you.
I must have been lucky with mine, I just pluged it in, it found the wireless router signal and that was it.
Mind you, for my sins, I dont have any security on it which might make it simpler.
Is your PS3 quite a way from the router, that would rule out a weak signal problem. It might be worth turning off all other appliances.
I think I had a setting on Automatic but i cant think what it was.
You might just need to experiment with a few different settings.

Re: Help Needed Please!!
ok thanks. no security on mine either. The router's kinda far away, signal strength is 35% but my laptop connects fine from same place as where ps3 is. I can't think what's wrong. It just says it can't find IP address.

Hehe! Yeah, I was just about to come on and ask for connection help too, I hav the exact same problem. I got my ps3 yesturday and I love it to bits. It's been working fine so far except for the fact that I can't get it connected. When I do a connection test it keeps coming up with error 80130131, says it can't retrieve the IP Address and tells me to check the security settings, but when I set it up I entered the correct WEP key in and everything. Also, does it mean anything that when i do a scan it gives me the name of my connection point and below security it has wpa-psk(tkip) , although I only hav a wep key not a wpa one. The signal strength is at 100% though so there's no problem there. I guess it's just me, I'm useless at undertsanding networks and connections and things, probably just doing something wrong. I also wanna get on asap, partly so I can make sure that everything on the console works ok.

Right I've managed to fix the problem. Hav u managed to get urs working yet? It had been such a long time since i'd connected anything I'd totally forgotten something I needed to do first. When i'm connecting new devices I have to click this button on my modem so that it can connect the new device, otherwise it won't let u do it. Hav u checked for stuff like that, otherwise just make sure you've got all ur settings put in right... Anyway, i'm gonna go try out some of these online features now, at long last, lol....
