I'd like to know the general facts about it, so in some future convo wen Folding@home comes up for some reason I know what to say
So Info Please?

Re: Folding@home
Its where you donate your computing power over to people at Stanford and you get ranks in how much you do of it and it keeps track of your stats and you get some cool visuals, and all the yellow dots are all the PS3's that are doing folding!home on the main screen.

Re: Folding@home
Is it a permanent drain on your CPU resources then ??
Are you like giving permissioin for them to tap into your PS3?
Just wondering if it has any implication on the speed of the PS3 and if it will affect games and browser use.....
Great idea though... It was such a surprising bit of good news out of all the bad press SONY was getting it makes you wonder if SONY masterminded the whole thing.... cynical... me.... noooooo

Re: Folding@home
dude it doesnt let them have access to your ps3, it lets them have access to the computing power, it only loses its power when your doing that, but you can't really do anything when your folding@home anyway, so as soon as you exit out, you have all of your power staying with u.

Re: Folding@home
actually sony is using ur ps3 for data base...even though if ur ps3 is off...sony is still having access to ur ps3.....but from what i heard of a situation.....this can crash ur system...because sony is trying to make ps home faster...n if they push it too much it can crash....a few years ago NASA did something similar n crashes thousands of computers..

...that's...retarded. sure, if the program pushes too hard on the cpu, the console will crash...but that's why sony programmed it for their console intelligently - not to do that. (my folding@home is on all day and night whenever i'm not playing a game..and hasn't overheated or crashed once.)
sony does not have backdoor access to the ps3, especially not when it's turned off. what exactly would they be interested in? usage statistics, sure, but hell, logging onto the PSNetwork probably does that for them. (and why shouldn't it?)
no offense, but please use some sense next time.
