US versions of Games - online gaming issues?
Hi folks,
If I buy US versions of games, will there be any issues gaming online? i.e. I read some notes here that say
"Most US events can only be played on US servers and therefore are only open to US players. The same is true for Europeans. There are some Global games which are open to ALL regions."
So basically, does anyone have an idea if I will have any issues playing online (being a UK user), with US versions of the following games:
Call of Duty 4
Army of Two
Assassins Creed
Pro Evolution 2008
Time Crisis 4
Many thanks

If you said, Unreal Tournament III , i would of said no. As for the others you listed, i doubt it would work.

Re: US versions of Games - online gaming issues?
There are indeed some games that even if you are in Europe will ONLY allow you to play Americans. An example is COD3.
Some games are Global like COD4 which means it doesnt matter which regions' disk you have in your PS3 as everyone ends up on the same server.
HOWEVER.... you may find that if you have a US copy of these games and are playing in Europe that lag may be worse as you 'may' be routed differently.
Conclusion
Only buy games from your region!!
Its not worth the extra savings buying an import.
Also, you will almost certainly find your games can NOT be traded in or sold in your region if they are from another region!

Re: US versions of Games - online gaming issues?
hmm interesting.. sounds best to stay clear then...
cheers folks
for those interested, I had this comment on another forum
"I have a bunch of US games (including Call of Duty 4) and I don't believe that there are any big problems with playing online with them. Sometimes though a game might be set to specifically go for servers in its home region only, which could put you at a disadvantage ping-wise, but often they come out with connectivity patches to allow worldwide server connections. This was the case with Call of Duty 4 and they released a connectivity patch not too long ago to solve that issue, among other things. I believe that Resistance was the same way at first.
The only other thing I can think of is that every once in a while there's a game for which downloadable content doesn't work for imported games. Rock Band is one that I can think of, and I recall that Warhawk had a problem with its first expansion pack although I don't know if it was resolved in the end."
