Has this happened to anyone else?
Quited a game on my PS today and the XMB didnt come up. Then is restarted. and led me to a screen saying I had to rebuild the database. It was the only option and so I did it. I then lost all my save game data.
Everything else seems to be ok but its a real pain in the backside as I have lost all progress on all games.
Is there a way to back this sort of info up as I spent days and days on some games and now I have to start again on them all!
any help or advice would be most welcome...

Ouch..
Im sure theres a backup ulitility under settings somewhere, maybe that could help
edit: Settings>System Settings>Backup Utility
Dont know if it will work but thats all i can think of

yeah the same thing has happened to me a few times, i rang sony who had never heard of this happening before, so they sent me a new ps3 on the basis that there was most likely somekind of hard drive fault.

Yeah this happened to be about a month ago, i got pretty scared.
But everything seemed the same, apart from my messages sent and received gone.
Didn't know saved game bits go though! GRRR

I was fortunate...
Happened to SnAkEeAteR though lolz. Life really seems to blow for that guy...But his game data was fine apperently.
EDIT: Since you lost your data, just get a new ps3, make sure it doesn't happen again.
SECOND EDIT: Make sure its in warenty.
