I believe I have made a thread similar to this but I thought I would make it again since its been a while and new members may be interested. As you all know HDMI cables are expensive and most people think that the name Monster means its the best, and it may very well be, but they are also the most expensive. Well I am here to save you money. I did a lot of reasearch on Google.com and HDMI.org for my info. First off let me copy and paste something from HDMI.org.
Q. What is the difference between a “Standard” HDMI cable and a “High-Speed” HDMI cable?
Recently, HDMI Licensing, LLC announced that cables would be tested as Standard or High-Speed cables.
- Standard (or “category 1”) cables have been tested to perform at speeds of 75Mhz, which is the equivalent of a 1080i signal.
- High Speed (or “category 2”) cables have been tested to perform at speeds of 340Mhz, which is the highest bandwidth currently available over an HDMI cable and can successfully handle 1080p signals including those at increased color depths and/or increased refresh rates. High-Speed cables are also able to accommodate higher resolution displays, such as WQXGA cinema monitors (resolution of 2560 x 1600).
So for the PS3 if you have an HDTV you are going to want a category 2 HDMI cable. Now if you visit Monstercable.com you will find about 10 different cat 2 hdmi cables and price range is about $100 to $150. Well now if you visit monoprice.com and go to HDMI ver. 1.3 cable category 2, you will find the same cables (not as pretty as monster) for about $10 shipped. I for the longest time couldn't pull myself from monster cables and then I started to do research and found that there really isn't a difference. And like monster, monoprice.com also gives you a lifetime warranty. So get over to monoprice.com and buy those HDMI cables, you won't regret it. I have 3 total HDMI cables from monoprice.com and haven't had any problems with them at all.
