Re: Linux is it worth it?
coming from someone (me) who is very good with windows (SIS is my major) and tried linux on a PC before, as well as the PS3, I can say without a doubt that linux is not worth it at all.
configuration of it is a biatch. everything has to be done manually, which is retarded. an example is setting up bluetooth...practically impossible. and even if i did get it to work, then there's the matter of actually syncing something to it...which is a very manual process.
windows does most of the stuff for you. if its not done, its easy to find out how to get it done. no stupid terminal, or manual edits of configuration files. sure, windows isn't very secure, but even if you could get it to run on the PS3, it wouldn't permanently mess anything up. why? because the 'otherOS' is running on emulated hardware. basically like VMWare.
i'm still waiting for a PS3Linux of sorts, one made and already set up specifically for the PS3 with integrated emulators, network, and media tools. until that happens, i do not recommend linux...unless you like configuration so much that you are willing to spend countless hours everyday doing tasks that are simple in windows. (just ask my linux-using roommate. he rarely leaves his room.)
