Nintendo has another stab at the Playstation 3 !

What is it about the world's press jumping on the 'lets stab SONY in the back' bandwagon. It must be the age old problem that when you are at the top, there are people hoping to see you fall.....



The press have always be quick to add fuel to the current minor woes of SONY. Delays, game list, price, availabilty.. They've all led to completely unjustified attacks. I think people forget that SONY was named as the number one brand in the US last year (!) above the likes of McDonalds and Coke !

Of course, one has to conceed there have been delays and supply issues and maybe SONY would have been wiser to have knocked back the global launch date to mid-2007 but , no, SONY wanted to please it's huge fan base and get out as many systems as possible. Nobody can say SONY are not trying their absolute harddest to get the system out as quickly as possible.

After all, the PS3 is not a flash in the pan product. It is at the cutting edge of gaming evolution with a specification that not only stands head and shoulders above the competition but would give a many thousand dollar top spec gaming PC a big lesson.

NOW, Nintendo are directly claiming a scalp over the PS3 with the announcement of sales of more than 600,000 of its Wii video game systems since November 19, racking up $190 million in sales in just eight days. The PS3 is estimated to have sold approximately 200,000 units in the first week of sales.

Er, excuse me, can somebody point out to Nintendo's head of America that their console is significantly inferior in functionality to the PS3 and, oh, costs half the price !!

I like to use the analogy of Automobiles. The Wii is a basic FORD with a few electrical bits such as electric windows and a funky design. The Playstation 3, however, is a Porsche Cayenne with speed, build quiality, prestige, kudos and luxury such as leather seats, Air Conditioning, etc. Okay, its at a price but you get what you pay for in this world and quality stands the test of time.

How can SONY's Playstation3 be judged as anything BUT a success. Not only did the consoles sell out but Joe Public was paying ridiculous levels to secure one.

It will likely take a year or so but SONY will once again regain its place at the top of the gaming tree and all these recent snipes will become history.

So... nintendo and xbox... Lets have some respect!

Agreed.
It was always going to be a case of the Wii selling in larger numbers, thats only to be expected given the price and quality differential.

There is room for them both AND the 360. I wish people would stop bashing each other. They are all good, no doubt.

Hey come on now.. I don't like the car manufacturer analogy.. If you are going to use car manufacturers, use something like Datsun... Something that people don't buy anymore.. (haha).... You're hurting my $52k Diesel F-250 SuperDuty's feelings... (With all the nice leather, navigation system, and fancy luxury items you can think of.. from the factory).

When your porsche Cayenne breaks down, What tows it back to a dealership? Usually a domestically built vehicle that can run a half million miles without an engine rebuild (many ford trucks do this..)..

OK i'm done.. just having fun!

Seriously though... The numbers are much higher from nintendo.. and it is far cheaper. And actually aimed at a slightly different audience as well. I've had a lot of fun playing a Wii(at a friends house), and I will probably buy one when I see one on store shelves, but the PS3 needs to resolve it's supply issues and really start working with developers to come out with amazing new games.

(Disclaimer: This post in no way claims that Porsche's or Fords are superior to any other vehicle, or that Your mom is bigger than mine)

(For those clever few (you do exist on these forums right?) who realised this, the only F-250's that have navigation systems are 2008's and will be released in mid january 2007.. Mine is pre-ordered)

Oh yeah and to the point.. Bad press is a given with any console. XBOX had it.. Wii gets a little... PS3 gets a lot only due to the fact that it's been riddled with launch date changes, and issues. The media will calm down and the PS will go on to be a killer system.

I do like the Wii but it just 'seems' like its targeted at kids...
I'd feel embarrassed to say I owned one, silly but true.

It doesnt really float my boat and the 360 and PS3 surely offer greater things.


Anyway, the Wii is here to stay. Its general attractiveness is plain to see and it will be a winner. Good luck to it...

Mind you, the sixaxis has motion control and I do like how it just adds to a game rather than being the game....
It has some excellent uses in RFOM, Project 8 and COD3.
It can also be used a steering wheel in some of the racing games but I haent tried it, theyre hard enough as it is!! :)
