Disc does not go all the way in.

Hey,
Just got a PS3 today and got everything set up. I put the disc in the slot and it goes in and you can still see the edge of the disc sticking out just a centimeter. It spins for a few seconds and then stops. On the main screen for the PS3 it shows all of the menus and no disc.

Is it normal for the disc to stick out or should it go all the way in. What is going on!!!!

Thanks
Ed

Unfortunately no it is not suppose to stick out. :(

What will you do now? What happens when you try to push the disc in with a bit more force?

Try a different disc ie. DVD, otherwise you may have a broken unit.

Agh, this sounds bad.

It is either a faulty motor or an obstruction. Its just not getting pulled all the way in.

If you bought it at a local store then get it replaced.
If its imported or difficult or similarly difficult to replace then youre options become risky. You may have to get someone with electronics knowledge to open it up and take a look.

Keep trying it though. It may a frozen motor that loosens.
Try it with a DVD or CD you dont mind damaging...

Originally, you shouldnt have had to push it in. You just place it in slightly and it gets grabbed in the rest of the way. i only mention this incase the first time you used it you pushed it all the way in with force and somehow damaged it slightly.

Though, the more I think about it it must be faulty. I havent heard of this before and SONY must have undertaken thorough testing on things like this.

If all fails and replacement is not really possible then I would personally be tempted, out of necessity, to open the console up myself and see if the problem is obvious. Be VERY careful doing this with power on.

hey,
I called sony on Tuesday and they said it is an issue with the cd slot. Won't fully take the disc.
I am waiting for them to send me a box to ship it back to them. They said I should have the box to send it back to them this upcoming Tuesday and then they will overnight me a new PS3.

So I just have to wait until next week to play the PS3.

Just gotta stare at this $550 paper weight, just what i wanted for Christmas.

Aghhh, thats grim....

At least it sounds like SONY are doing their best to ship one out to you ASAP...

I wonder if they'll do you the service of installing the latest update and keeping your saved data, etc !! That would be nice.

Otherwise you will have to perform the update yourself when you switch it on and go through the laborious singing on malarcky again !

Make sure you save any games date, etc, to a UsB drive.

What games did you have anyway ?
