upload movies?

i have a 200gig usb drive and have it plugged into my ps3.. but how do i get the movies i have on there onto my ps3??

welcome to the site!

Firstly, as soon as you plug any USB item into the PS3 it should recognise it immediately.
It will add the name of the device underneath all the media titles.

Now, if you move along to Videos and press the 'triangle' key you will be presented with other options.
One of them might be 'Display All'. If you press this you should then see the files you wish to copy over or play.

Pressing the 'Triangle' at this point will provide you with further options.

If you dont see any files it maybe because the PS3 only currently supports a few formats such as MPEG...

It does NOT support WMV or WMA or AVI which is unfortunate as they comprise about 98% of my porn.... :D :p

on a serious note.... This is a problem that SONT will 'hopefully' address in one of its future software updates. Of course, two of those formats are Microsoft based so that may hinder their progress!

By the way, when you are playing a MPEG video if you hit that magic triangle key you will get other options like size, volume and play/pause/FF, etc.

okay iv tried everything ,, and i guess my ps3 just isnt recognizing my usb drive because now i put some music on it to transfer to my ps3 but i cant even do that, it doesnt recognize the drive is there at all, and theres nothing in the options menu about other devices..

It must be a USB problem...

Is it an old USB 1.0 ? Maybe it needs to be a USB 2.0 drive, only guessing...

It should flash it up on the screen the instant you plug it in. Its faster than a PC I would say in this department...

There is another way though !!

Upload the files to a website and then go to your PS3 browser and download them. As mentioned, the video files probably have to be in MPEG format to be recognised. If they arent you should convert them over with any converting software you can download from the web first.#

1st off the movies have to be MP4 format the way i get my movies and MP3's onto my PS3 is 1 use a converter the one i find that works best is WinAVI MP4 Converter and 2 have a 1GB sd card handie...it takes a lil while to convert and copy over but its much easier then trying to find out why your USB hdd isnt working on the PS3

or just stream them from your PC to PS3 then you dont have to convert them, thats what i do & watch movies in .avi formatt & divx. If ya need a tutorial on how go to www.ps3-hacks.com & in tha forums there is a tutorial i did for this.
