I'm really happy with the way this turned out.

i see you took merc's sig idea into consideration, it's not bad, but i am curious of how you make elements stick out, I know you reduce the size of something for the background but bleed over with the picture/text to get that effect, but not sure how

I already knew how but Merc's sigs inspired me to give it a go. You make the canvas bigger than the box you want and leave that area transparent. Then Save For Web as PNG-24 with Transparency checked.
