Also on your comment Sundance that no-one from the US would support Derby County or something along those lines, Why Not??? they have American owners..surely thats an incentive for someone?

Why would someone support a club because of the owner's nationality? That has almost nothing to do with the club. And in case you didn't know, both the owners of Liverpool are American, is that 'incentive' enough for you?
I've already stated my reasons for supporting Man united in an Avram Grant thread i think, from which no-one has argued my points, i originally supported Man United because of Sir Alex and his connections with my home town and have from there grown to love my team. ALSO the first season i took notice of football on the TV, Blackburn won the league, must have started supporting Man U because they had the "upper hand" then! Finishing 2nd is a real upper hand is it! Also on your comment that i'd be all over the next team in-line if Man united weren't in the title race in 2001/02 we finished 3rd by 10 points, 2003/04 we finished 3rd by 15 points, 2004/2005 we finished 3rd by 22 points, so to say i'd jump on the bandwagon of whoever won is just plain wrong, maybe you should look up the facts before commenting, you have the football knowledge of a donkey.
This is a topic that was being discussed in a Liverpool forum I'm in. Do you love your club, or your manager. If Ferguson left, you'd be gone as well. Manchester United is the most famous and most liked football club in the world, including the time when you started supporting them.
I don't know too much about football in the early 90's, but I know that Manchester lost the title by no more than a point, don't act like that wasn't enough for you to jump on the wagon.
The point is you hate the fact that I'm very aware of English football. The history I know of my club starts from before I was born. Maybe because I'm an American and you hate that I'm a true supporter, and not some glory hunter [like you].

1- i already stated that man united grew on me as ferguson was there, so i would therefore never dream of not supporting united even if fergie left.2- why would i jump on the bandwagon of a team which didn't win the league? what incentive is there in that to support them?3- it doesnt matter how aware you are of english football what in the world has that got to do with what i'm speaking about? In a united forum im in one of the mods is american, hes a massive fan i haven't once mentioned anything to do with your loyalty because of wherever your from.4- at least i have a good reason for supporting my club other than based on an international game..5- call me a glory hunter all you want, not my fault the team i've always supported because of there managers relation to my town is champions, yeah thats right CHAMPIONS OF ENGLAND..

What you don't understand is that the fact I became a Liverpool supporter based on there performance in an international game is one of the best ways to become one. Face it, no one ever watches a single Premiership match and says 'I love this club for the rest of my life'. 95% of the time it's because they won a trophy one year, and even if they did or did not win it again, they still continue to support them.
But my liking came to the club from a very neutral point of view. I saw the way they played together. Liverpool had everything to do with that game. You don't realize it, but it's almost fair to say that Liverpool beat the German national team. That is what made me love the club. The fact they know how to play with each other despite their circumstances. How is that not a great way to start your love for a club.
how can you claim to have such passion for a team u started supporting in a international match?
Because it grew? You idiot. The Michael Owen Cup Final, The entire 2005 Champions League Campaign, The FA Cup final against West Ham. That's what made my passion for the club. The fact that Liverpool does not stop playing even when it's seems to be over. That's why I love Liverpool FC.
For once im with sundance on this one, if he was a glory hunter he would have picked Utd as his team, as Utd were the dominant force at that time. Kids pick their football teams based on childhood memories, I started following West Ham as an 8 year old because despite being a 2nd Division side, they beat arsenal in the cup final, but ive stuck with them ever since and that includes several relegations.
yh! wen I was young, I started supporting Roma then I was a glory hunter (man u, inter, arsenal bla bla bla) but wen I grew up I wanted 1 team, and that was my 1st team...Roma
